Where is the cottage? How far
is it from Haliburton Village?
Dancing Trees Cottage is on West Lake, which is 18 kms northeast of Haliburton
Village.
West Lake -- what's it like?
West Lake is a quiet, spring-fed lake about 1.5 kms long and about 1 km wide with several small islands and
bays to explore.
There are about 22 cottages on the lake.
How's the boating?
West Lake is relatively small and best suited to fishing boats and
canoes. A canoe and a rowboat with oars are included in the rental fee. You may also bring
your own boat -- there is a boat launch on the lake.
How many beds / bedrooms?
The cottage sleeps up to
10 people comfortably. There are 7 beds in 4 bedrooms:
Bdrm 1: Master Loft with King bed & 4 pce ensuite (sleeps 2)
Bdrm 2: Queen (sleeps 2)
Bdrm 3: 2 Bunk beds (sleeps 4)
Bdrm 4: Futon couch, queen (sleeps 2). This room
provides additional
living space during the day and can be converted to a bedroom at night. There's
a
second TV in this room.
What linens are provided? What do we need to bring?
Pillows and blankets and/or comforters are provided for each bed. You need to bring your own
sheets
and pillow cases, as well as bath, kitchen and beach towels.
Is there a fireplace?
Yes, there's a gas
fireplace.
How private is the cottage?
The closest cottage is about 300' away and is not visible when the trees are in leaf.
The lot next to ours on the other side is vacant, the closest cottage is more than 700' away and is not visible.
Across the road from the cottage, there's a 100+ acre forest with trails and stream leading to Moose
Lake -- our cottage guests are welcome to hike/wander about in. The cottage is about
100' from the road and vehicle traffic is minimal.
What about security?
The cottage is monitored by a Cottage Watch company. They will know that you are
at the cottage.
Are guests expected to clean the cottage when they leave?
Yes, guests are
expected to leave the cottage and property in a clean and orderly
condition just as it is when you arrive. Cleaning supplies are provided. The cottage is inspected
between each rental to ensure a high standard of
cleanliness. A cleaning service can be arranged for a fee, on
request.
Can I request a
cleaning service?
Yes, we will arrange a cleaning service on your behalf. Please request the cleaning services when you submit your
rental application. There is a fee for this service.
Are there stairs from the cottage deck to the lake?
Yes, there are stairs off the lakeside deck which lead to a path, which leads to the lake.
The stairs are wide, with handrails on each side. There is a safety gate
on the deck to keep small children on the deck. You can also get to the lake from the front door of the cottage, which doesn't require the use of stairs.
What stores and services are available in Haliburton Village?
Haliburton Village has grocery stores, clothing stores, a bank
and liquor store, art galleries, quaint shops, restaurants and more.
Groceries are available at the Independent (much like Loblaws) and
the IGA.
There's a small store
at Fort Irwin Marina which is about 10 minutes from the cottage
-- they carry the basics like milk, bread, hotdogs, ice cream, propane. There's also
a grocery store at Eagle Lake.
Is there a fire pit at the cottage?
Yes, there is a fire pit and firewood at the cottage. Do not bring wood with you.
Wood chopping tools are not provided -- bring an axe with you.
What
about winter activities like skiing, snowboarding
and snowmobiling?
There's lots to do
in the winter. Sir Sams Ski
Area offers excellent downhill skiing & snowboarding and a ski
school just 20 minutes from the cottage. Snowmobilers
can ride to a major snowmobile trail less than 4 kms from the
cottage, and there are hundreds of kilometers of
groomed snowmobile trails throughout Haliburton. Snowshoe on the
lake or through the forest across the road. Winterdance, a popular dogsledding
company, is about 15 min away. More info is available

Are pets allowed?
Sorry, no pets are allowed in
the cottage or on the cottage property.
